Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 3 months old

Her story: Masleen is a Christian who worked for a family full time for two years. The family had 3 children aged 10, 4 and 2. Masleen looked after the little one and helped in the house with cleaning and laundry. Then the family no longer needed a full time domestic and now they still call her every now and then to clean their house. She has an Au Pair and CPR course and her two children are both grown up and living in Zimbabwe. She has one grandchild and was the first lady ever to bring a pen and paper to our course to make notes. One Stop Domestic found work for her looking after a 3 months old baby. Unfortunately the family had to move but gave her a very nice reference. Masleen currently works as a nurse but is off every Thursday and looking for Thursday work in the Cape Town area.

References: Yes, two

What the reference saidMasleen has been working for us for two years full time. She helped to look after our smallest one a lot but also played with the other two. She cleaned and took care of our laundry. For the children she prepared basic meals. Her ironing is very good. Then the children grew up and we now only call her to clean our house when we need her which is about once in two weeks. Masleen is always puctual and is a very happy person with a great attitude. She is absolutely honest and her English is fantastic. I can recommend her to anyone.

We got Masleen from One Stop Domestic. She was with us for about 6 months and cleaning our small flat as well as looking after my 3 year old baby boy 3 days/week. We were very fond of her. She was both committed and responsible as well as hard working. We had to move and that's the only reason she no longer works for us. I was often at home when she cared for the little one but at times out of the house as well. She was wonderful with him and followed all my instructions well. I can certainly recommend her for both cleaning and child minding.

My observationMasleen has experience with both children and elderly. Her own children are grown up. On weekends she plays the guitar at her church and describes herself as a friendly person who is passionate about children.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 2 years old

Her story: Patricia is a Christian who worked for 4 years as a char for a family with two children. They were 7 and 2 years old when she started to work for them.  Then they moved to Australia and Patricia doesn’t have a reference from then.  She says if someone teaches her how to cook she is willing to cook for her new family. For the last 3 years she works for the same family every Tuesday but since one day is too little income she is looking for full time work.  That employer gave her a very nice testimonial. In the meantime we placed her during the week and now she is still looking for Saturday work.

References: Yes, two

What the reference said: Patricia has been working for me once a week for 3 years now. She is totally reliable and honest and every time locks up our house properly before she leaves.  She is intelligent, hard working and uses her initiative. Everyone in the family likes her, also our cat.  If she can’t come she let’s me know and always adds that little extra touch to my house.  In the 3 years she has also helped out my friends and neighbors and they were equally happy with her. I can recommend her to anyone.

Patricia was given to us by One Stop Domestic. She was our nanny for our daughter from when she was only 3 months old. She also cleaned the house sometimes and I must say she irons very well. We no longer need Patricia's service and hope One Stop Domestic will be able to find her a cleaning and nanny position soon.

Our observation: Patricia cleans thoroughly and uses her own initiative. Her favorite tasks are ironing and child minding. She immediately made contact with my toddler and started to play with him.  She is naturally good with children and has three children of her own who were born between 2000 and 2011.

Her story: Sibi came to South Africa in 2010.  She worked every Saturday for a crèche in Gordon’s bay, did both cleaning and playing with the children. Then she worked as a domestic in Somerset West. The family had two children (2 and 5 years of age).  The 2 year old stayed alone at home with Sibi while she also took care of house. When the family moved away in 2013 we found work for her in Stellenbosch, again looking after a 2 year old girl and cleaning the house.  The family was very happy with her work but after a while needed a sleep in nanny.  From the End of 2013 she worked for 8 months for a family who gave her an excellent testimonial.  They moved to England. There Sibi was alone at home with a 3 month old boy while cleaning the house. For about 1,5 years now she has been doing babysitting for us every Saturday half a day.

What the reference said: She is an excellent worker; very flexible (came to clean on a Sunday when asked to). She is a star and besides cleaning she also sometimes looks after the children in my daycare from home. She is very punctual and has never been sick in 3 years. She is extremely honest, a very fast worker with own initiative.  Sibi was alone at home with my boy from when he was 3 months old while my husband and I worked full time.  She was responsible with him and he got attached to her quickly.  She is a very fast learner and had a good relationship with both me and my husband.  Her ironing is beautiful and she is honest and uses her own initiative.  Sibi spoke a lot to my 3 months old boy and he loved her.  She is always eager to learn. She has never let us down. If she could not come she always let us know which was about twice in 18 months and she is a natural with children. All 4 our kids love her. She is also a fast cleaner, sometimes has to do light house work. I actually suggested to Sibi to go for a higher income than the average because what she has to offer is certainly above average.

Our observation: Sibi is presentable, clean, neat and always smiles. She is a very hard worker and fast learner. She is not at all in your way and knows how to stay in the background when you have guests. She is a "children's magnet", the little ones just love her. We definitely would like to keep her Saturdays but if she gets a nice job offer including Saturdays we will sadly let her go.

Before cleaning the church she worked for a family with two children for 5 years as a cleaning lady and nanny until they moved overseas and they emailed us a testimonial.

References: Yes, three

What the reference saidHeather was our full time cleaner and nanny for 5 years until we moved. My children loved her and in the evenings she did babysitting for us as well. She is very realiable and kind with the kids. She is also an excellent communicator and always let me know if there were any issues or problems. I can recommend her to any family.

Heather has cleaned our church, office and foyers since 2008, that is now 8 years. We don't need her more than 3 days/week. She is a great worker. Honest, reliable, friendly, well spoken and uses entirely her own initiative. She is well organized and always lets us know should she be sick which she hardly ever is.

Heather worked for us for almost a year. She was on leave when I realized that I can manage the cleaning now alone, as our only child is already 5 years old. Heather cleans very well and you can trust her. She has a lovely personality and was good with my 5 year old daugher when every now and then she had to play with her.

Our observation: Heather is a mature cleaner with years of experience. She likes animals and children, is well spoken, well organized and talkative.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 1,5 years old but doesn't have reference from the family because they moved overseas

Her storyMargaret worked for a family for a year until Margaret fell pregnant and they filled her position. With that family there was no child minding involved although she already looked after a 1,5 year old child with another family. She was alone at home with the toddler but since the family moved overseas she doesn't have a reference for that. I called the family in Stellenbosch where she worked for a year for a testimonial. She found work now for 1 day a week and is still looking for the days above.

References: Yes, one

What the reference said: Margaret worked for us for a bit more than a year. She took care of the household and was very reliable and hard working. When she fell pregnant we decided to employ someone else because we couldn't wait for her to come back after 6 months or so. That was the only reason why we let her go, otherwise she would still be working for us. She is very honest and dedicated.

Our observation: Margaret loves children and on the weekends goes to church. She was very thankful and we could see that she is naturally good with children.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 4 months

Her storyFor 3 years Nolu worked for a family full time. Their baby was 4 months old when she started there and went to creche at the age of  2,5 years when they decided to clean themselves. We have placed her into a family where transport became an issue and then into a guesthouse which had to let her go when the season was over. After that she was a stand in domestic for 4 months. We placed her again and now she is only looking for the day(s) above. She works for her current employer 3 days/week but the employer says a person who is interested in Nolu can pick any 2 out of the 4 green days above as on Mondays she really needs her...

ReferencesYes, four

What the reference saidNolu has worked for me for more than 3 years.  She was so much more than an employee – she was like a sister to me.  She is a very hard worker and absolutely gorgeous with the kids.  I can recommend her to anyone!

We live on the other side of Stellenbosch and Nolu worked for us nicely. But the transport became an issue. We were very sad to loose her because of transport issues. She cleaned for us and took care of the laundry. Both my husband and I work and we have two children.

We are a guesthouse and got Nolu from One Stop Domestic. She was with us for one season. When it gets quiet we unfortunately have to let a lot of ladies go every year. Nolu always has a smile on her face. She cleaned the rooms, made beds and took care of flowers and amenities and we were happy with her work.

Nolu is punctual, kind and friendly. She works hard and cleans and irons well. She has a kind heart and was good with my children and pets.

Our observationNolu is neat, calm and patientShe cleaned well and had fun with the other ladies attending the course. She says she likes children children and cooking. She had a smile on her face all the time and doesn't want to sit around at home but be proud to work.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 10 years old.

Her storyPrecious' mother works for a family in Zimbabwe. In the beginning Precious helped them out when her mother was sick, but later became part of their permanent staff as they had many guests and her mother couldn't manage the big house alone. Precious worked for them from for 7 years. Their children were 10 and 12 years old when she started to work for them and we called the family for a testimonial. For 6 months she was working in Somerset West as a cleaning lady and nanny in a family where we placed her and we also got a reference from them. In the meantime we have placed her and now she is still looking for work on the above day(s).

References: Yes, two

What the reference said: For Precious' reference we phoned all the way to Zimbabwe. The employer told us that Precious is very hard working and that she was with them for 7 years. First she helped out in the house and later her position became more permanent until she decided to join her husband in South Africa. The children liked her, she is very kind and has done some basic cooking. She is trustworthy and a very quick learner.

We got Precious at a difficult time from One Stop Domestic when our second child was about to arrive. We left her alone with house and animals and I thought if she could cope alone for a few days she would be a good fit. Precious was punctual and not sick but I wanted more of a nanny than she was, she cleaned well but I expected to have a lady who is naturally more interested in my kids. We got now a replacement from One Stop Domestic and it is still early days with the new lady. I can recommend Precious for cleaning but think cleaning and kids will be too much for her.

Our observationPrecious says that, on weekends, she listens to music, cleans her own house and goes to church on Sundays.

References: Yes, two

What the reference said: Vimby was a real star and we were so glad to have her for 5 years.  She took care of my son until he went to playschool. We liked her a lot and she is a honest, disciplined worker who is fun to have around. Vimby worked for me for 6 months and was alone at home with my youngest girl. I am a single mom, working half day and Vimby was very sweet with her and reliable. Unfortunately when the little one turned one I had to make the decision to take her to creche and let Vimby go because of financial reasons only.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 4 years old

Her story: Porcia likes children a lot. She has got a baby and toddler development and stimulation course of which we have a copy.  For 2 years she worked for the same family until they could no longer afford her.  She cleaned the house and took care of the laundry and sometimes played with the 4 year old child of the family. We placed Porcia and now she is still looking for the above day(s).

References: Yes, one

What the reference said: Porcia worked for us for 3 years until we had to let her go because of financial reasons. She was an excellent worker and always went that extra mile for us. She is very honest and clever and she always finished my to-do list. I only gave her extra things to do as she put herself into a good routine of what to do when. She sometimes also played with our 4 year old daughter and she really likes children.

Our observation: Porcia says if someone teaches her how to cook she is willing to cook for her new family. She is neat, polite and in her free time sings in a choir.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 2 years old

Her storyVee worked for a year for a family with two children. She then went back to Zimbabwe and got married and now her sister is working for that family. Vee's husband came with her and is working full time. We placed Vee in Stellenbosch with a family for 4 days/week and now she is still looking for the above day(s) in Stellenbosch.

References: Yes, one

What the reference saidVee worked for us for just over a year. She is a very clean and tidy person herself and had to keep our house clean, take care of the laundry and afternoons played with our 2 and 4 year old children. They liked her very much and she made them breads and also sometimes bathed them. We think she will make a great addition to any family.

Our observationVee was cleaning one of our rooms where we had forgotten R4000 next to the bed. It was all still there! She likes to spend time with her friends on weekends and to go to church. She describes herself as rather quiet and always friendly. She also likes both children and animals.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, newborn

Her storyFuneka's employer approached us to help find her more days as she is such a wonderful lady. She started to work for her current employer in 2000 already but because the children are in creche it is now only one day a week. Since 2004 she is working for another family also. I called both employers for a reference. Funeka loves cooking and cooked supper for the whole family. In the meantime we placed Funeka and now she is only looking for work on the above day(s).

References: Yes, two

What the reference saidFuneka has been working for me for 15 years now. First full time then we had to reduce her hours because the children went to creche. She is very reliable and honest and great with children. She raised two children for us from newborn, cleaned, ironed and did other chores around the house. I can recommend her to anyone. Funeka is super trustworthy. She has the keys to our house and uses her own initiative when she cleans as we are not at home when she comes. She is always friendly towards us and lets us know if she can't come which doesn't happen often.

Our observation: Funeka is a good cleaner, is friendly and thanked us several times for the course. By working for the same family now for 15 years she shows that she is interested in a long term relationship with her employers. We could also see her passion for children.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 1 year old

Her storyDeliwe is a Chrsitian who currently works for a family every Friday but is looking for full time work for a better income. She started there End of 2015, cleans and takes care of the laundry. She then was working as a stand in lady in Somerset for a family with a 4 year old child. She cleaned and ironed for them and played with the child. One Stop Domestic found another stand in position for her, looking after a 1 year old girl. The family gave her a nice testimonial. In the meantime we placed Deliwe and now she is still looking for work on the above day(s).

References: Yes, three

What the reference saidDeliwe I would describe as very loyal. She is always on time and if she can not make it on time always lets me know. I totally trust her because she works alone in our house while my husband and I are at work. When I come back everything is done and in its place.

Deliwe worked for us for 6 weeks when our domestic could not come. She ironed for us, cleaned and in the afternoons played very nicely with our 4 year old boy. We are a household of 6 in a fairly big house with 4 bedrooms and she managed very well. She is hard working and never complained, was thankful for every little bit we gave her like clothes for her own boy and anything to eat. She is well mannered and we can certainly recommend her.

We got Deliwe from One Stop Domestic. We are German tourists and stayed in Somerset for 2 months with our little daughter Lena, 1 year old. Deliwe came to us twice a week and was only responsible for our girl. She played with her, changed nappies, fed her and put her down for her afternoon sleep. She also once did babysitting for us in the evening and I can strongly recommend her. She was at all times responsible with Lena and when she slept did light houswork in between. She has a boy herself who is a bit older than Lena. We had all our valuables laying around and nothing went missing ever. Should we again visit South Africa, maybe when we have our second child, we will definitely employ her again!

Our observationDeliwe likes to laugh and weekends spends time with her family and cleans her own house. She stays with her husband and one child and likes to read. If her new family teaches her how to she is willing to learn how to cook.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 2 years

Her story: Hilda is a Christian who worked as a sleep in domestic for a family with 2 children until their oldest child went to crèche full time.  The baby was still very small and with the mother all day.  Hilda would clean, take care of the laundry and be responsible for the 3 year old from 13h. She would also cook family dinner every day following a recipe the employer gave her. She attended a CPR course for children and infants in Cape Town and we have a copy of her certificate.

References: Yes, one

What the reference said:  Hilda has worked for us for about 8 months until we decided our oldest child will go to crèche. She took care of the 3 year old from 13h until bed time. She would give the child food and read stories, play while I took care of our newborn. I made Hilda a daily and weekly list and she got in a good routine of cleaning our big house. With me being at home and the oldest child full time in crèche there was just no sleep in nanny required any more.  I can recommend her to anyone with children as she is naturally good with them.

Our observation: Hilda says she loves children and listening to them. In her free time she sells second hand clothes in her township which she buys at auctions.

References: Yes, one

What the reference said: Julia worked for me for two years as a domestic.  When our grandchild came to visit from when the child was 3 months old, she looked the whole day after the child and we paid her a little extra.  She turned out to be very good with children.  Julia is a reliable worker who finishes her chores without any supervision.  She is trustworthy and hardworking and I am very sad I moved away and had to let her go.  I believe she will treat her new employer with the same ethics and work standards.

Our observation: Julia is calm and patient and eager to learn new things.  She works independently and follows instructions well.

Her story: Andiswa was a cleaning lady for a guesthouse for a year. For the next 3 years she worked for a family in both their restaurant and private home. In the restaurant she was cleaning as well as making pizzas and fish. The family moved away and we called them for a testimonial. Andiswa also has cleaning company experience and is now looking for a new challenge again.

References: Yes, two

What the reference saidWe were absolutely crazy about Andiswa.  The only reason why she stopped working for us was because we moved. We even tried to convince her to come with us but it was not possible. She is a very very hard worker and a fast learner. She is always neat and tidy and a physically strong worker too. She never missed one day of work in all the years and worked for our private house as well. After she had done all the ironing and cleaning she went to work in the garden to keep herself busy!! She is very good with children and does stimulational things with them like reading and writing and does not only play with them. She is as honest as can and will be a great addition to each family.

Our observationAndiswa is a thorough and fast worker.  After she had finished the cleaning tasks we had given her she started to help the other women so she is a hard worker and wants to keep herself busy. She describes herself as a hard, quiet worker who likes good communication and who likes kids.

She accompanied the family everywhere to help with their two children. When Patricia started to work for them the first child was a newborn. Although the mother stayed at home Patricia was every day alone with the baby right from the beginning. The children grew very attached to her but when they went to creche there was no more work for Patricia who is looking for a new challenge again. Patricia has done an Early child development course of 5 half days. There she learned about hygiene, baby massage, to make toys out of waste and make play dough. The course focused on children between 3 months and 5 years of age. Patricia was placed by us and is now still looking for work on the above day(s).

References: Yes, one

What the reference saidPatricia's best point is the childcare. She is so natural, careful and responsible with them. My child she helped with from when it was a newborn, some days several hours when I was out. She kept our house clean and took care of the laundry. Patricia was always friendly and patient with my children and very honest. She was punctual, not often sick and uses her own initiative. I would recommend her to anyone, especially to women with small children.

Our observationPatricia is experienced with newborn babies and is very friendly.  In her free time she goes to church or bakes. She describes herself as an easy person to get along with.

Her storyConnie worked for the same family for 9 years until the two children went to play school and they could no longer afford her. For 6 months Connie looked after an elderly lady who then had a stroke and went to an old age home. We phoned her for a testimonial Connie has found work in the meantime and is now still looking for the above day(s).

References: Yes, two

What the reference saidConnie has been working for us for 3 months now. She is lovely and so much better than my last cleaning lady. She cleans and irons and gives the house a thorough clean. I am very fussy and want everything to be spotless and I am full of praise for her. We are totally happy with Connie and will understand if she finds full time work. If we could afford her we'd take her full time but we unfortunately can't. Connie comes in and carries on with her work at her own speed and sees what can be done next. She is all we need in a cleaning lady, absolutely reliable, punctual and honest. Connie worked for me for about 6 months. She kept me company and cleaned my flat and did my laundry until I had a stroke and gave up my flat. I was very happy with her services and one great thing about her was that she was always on time, every single day in the 6 months and that she really likes elderly people, I could feel it.

Our observation: Connie says she likes to go with her children to church on weekends. She also likes to play with her children. She will organize someone to look after her children, her youngest one was born in 2005, should she find sleep in work and is willing to work Saturdays as well. Connie says she likes to work with people and also likes elderly people.
