You can always make an induvidual work offer to a specific domestic and see if he or she will accept it.

But most domestics would like to earn between R3400 and R3600/month as a starting salary including transport (for 5 days a week sleep out work). The ladies then get a breakfast bread or rusks and coffee and a sandwich type of lunch from you. The sleep in ladies start at R2800/month, but get 3 meals/day and free water and electricity.

If a lady would like to work for more than the above rate, or is willing to consider a lower offer, we will specifically state that it in her profile. Weekend work is often paid at R30/hour.

On the bottom of the page you will find our ladies from Cape Town and surroundings. The gardeners have a separate page.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, newborn

Her storyFor 2,5 years, Susan worked full time for a family with a newborn and a 4 year old child. She was involved with the children as well as running the household. The family moved overseas. Thereafter she worked for 2 years as a caretaker for an elderly lady until she passed away. She currently works every Friday, but the family will understand if she finds full time work in order to increase her income. We found work for her Saturdays and now she is still looking for the above day(s).

What the reference said:

Susan worked for us full time for 2 years. She was employed as a caretaker for my mother. Susan is very loyal and hard working, with a friendly and caring nature. She has a very positive attitude and some of her duties were to bath and feed my mother. Sometimes she stayed in and did the grocery shopping, gave her medication and cooked for her. She was a great employee, who soon became like a friend and part of the family. When my mother passed away, we could no longer afford her full time and wish her all the best in the future.

Susan currently works for us 1 day/week. We are very happy with her standard of cleaning, but will understand if she finds full time work in order to increase her income.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, Newborn

Her story: Blessing has been working for an elderly couple for 5 years. She often looks after the coulpe's grandchild when the parents drop the grandchild off at their house or she goes to the parents' house to do evening babysitting. When Blessing started to work for the family, the child was a newborn. The grandparents have a seven room house and Blessing copes well. They will soon move to Johannesburg and they approached us about placing her since the parents have a long term cleaning lady already.

References: Yes, one

What the reference said: We will soon move to Pretoria and that's why Blessing can no longer work for us. She often cooked for us and makes very nice food. Sometimes she even cooked for our dinner parties. She is very honest and was very good with our grandchild. She was involved with the child from the time he was very young and looked after him at our house and also at my daughter's house. She always got to everything and we can highly recommend her. We were the ones approaching One Stop Domestic about new work for Blessing because she really deserves full time work.

Our observation: Blessing's only child was born in 2007 and lives with her. In her free time she likes to read and study further (home based care on Sundays). On weekends she likes to spend time with her family and her husband has full-time work.

She cleaned our house and helped with our small children who were in creche and school in the mornings. In the afternoons she played with them. Gladys didn't do any cooking for us. She is hard working and good with children. During the holidays, she always looked after the children full time because both me and my husband had to work.

Gladys ironed for us one day a week to help with our big amount of laundry. We never had any problems with her and can recommend her.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 3 months old

Her story: Masleen is a Christian who worked for a family full time for two years. The family had 3 children aged 10, 4 and 2. Masleen looked after the little one and helped in the house with cleaning and laundry. Then the family no longer needed a full time domestic and now they still call her every now and then to clean their house. She has an Au Pair and CPR course and her two children are both grown up and living in Zimbabwe. She has one grandchild and was the first lady ever to bring a pen and paper to our course to make notes. One Stop Domestic found work for her looking after a 3 months old baby. Unfortunately the family had to move but gave her a very nice reference.

References: Yes, two

What the reference saidMasleen has been working for us for two years full time. She helped to look after our smallest one a lot but also played with the other two. She cleaned and took care of our laundry. For the children she prepared basic meals. Her ironing is very good. Then the children grew up and we now only call her to clean our house when we need her which is about once in two weeks. Masleen is always puctual and is a very happy person with a great attitude. She is absolutely honest and her English is fantastic. I can recommend her to anyone.

We got Masleen from One Stop Domestic. She was with us for about 6 months and cleaning our small flat as well as looking after my 3 year old baby boy 3 days/week. We were very fond of her. She was both committed and responsible as well as hard working. We had to move and that's the only reason she no longer works for us. I was often at home when she cared for the little one but at times out of the house as well. She was wonderful with him and followed all my instructions well. I can certainly recommend her for both cleaning and child minding.

My observationMasleen has experience with both children and elderly. Her own children are grown up. On weekends she plays the guitar at her church and describes herself as a friendly person who is passionate about children.

References: Yes, one

What the reference said: Enita was refered to us by our neighbour's gardener, who is her husband. He has been working for the neighbours quite some time and is very hard working. We only need Enita once every two weeks but understand if she can find full time work for a better income. So far she has every time been at our house earlier than what she had to, has never been sick or demanding. She is very honest, nothing goes missing. In the beginning I gave her a sort of introduction of how I want things done and now she carries on with what I have told her. Sometimes she stays longer than what we agreed on and I pay her extra for the overtime.

Our observationEnita describes herself as a quiet lady who loves children. She goes to church on Sundays and sings in the church choir. Her only child stays in Malawi.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 3 months old

Her story: After school Sharmone has done an internship at two Somerset play schools for a total of 1,5 years and has worked there with children from the age of 3 months to about 6 years. She is a Christian and says she would love to find work where she can look after children. Afrikaans is her first language but her English is also very good and she knows all about house work since she helps her mother to keep their own house clean. She however doesn't want a job where she only cleans. She prefers to look after a child also.

References: Yes, two

What the reference said: Sharmone worked with us with children from 3 months until 6 years of age. Because it was an internship we let her work with children of all ages to give her an insight into each age group. She was an assistant teacher in the classes, helped with activities and I was very impressed with her. After a year our creche had to close down because of financial reasons so Sharmone went to work for another creche.

Sharmone worked at our creche for 6 months with children from the age of 3 months to 5 years. She was great with the children and left out of her own to study further. She has a child of her own and is lovely, responsible and great with them. We are a well known creche in Somerset and would have kept her permanently. She has a passion for children but is a bright allrounder who you can tell anything from cleaning to organizing an event.

Our observation: Sharmone is an extrovert who describes herself as a happy and self motivated person who is hard working and reads in her free time. Her child was born in 2014 and will be taken care of by her family once Sharmone finds work. She likes new challenges.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 8 months old

Her story: Shamiso worked as a housekeeper in Zimbabwe for 4 years.  The mother was at home full time but Shamiso helped her with her 8 month old baby.  We phoned the woman in Zimbabwe for a testimonial. Shamiso came to South Africa in June 2013 and  was working one day a week as a domestic in Stellenbosch until she fell pregnant. We also called that employer. In the meantime we found work for her and now she is still looking for the above day(s).

ReferencesYes, three

What the reference said: If Shamiso had not decided to move to South Africa we’d still employ her.  She was a very reliable and honest housekeeper who helped me with the upbringing of my child who was 8 month of age when she started to work for me.  She was always prepared to walk that extra mile for us and is a nice person to have around.  We can recommend her to anyone.  She is also very neat, clean and presentable.

Shamiso is very friendly and reliable. Our children are 10 and 12 years old and although she doesn’t have to look after them much they liked to have her around and liked talking to her. We live in Stellenbosch and her husband works for us in the garden. They are both proud of their work.  Over time I have shown her exactly how I want things done and she is a fast learner. She would be a great addition to any family because she wants to please you.

Shamiso was placed with us as a stand in lady by One Stop Domestic. She was very hard working and willing. She got to everything I asked her and she is very friendy and nice to have around.

Our observation: Shamiso is energetic and friendly.  She likes to learn new things and likes children a lot. She describes herself as someone who is evenly tempered and likes to sing.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 2 months old.

Her story: Genevieve worked for a family for 18 months. When she started to work for them their baby was 2 months old and she was in daytime alone with the baby at home. Both parents worked. When the boy went to a full time creche, they no longer needed Genevieve. She then worked for a family for 3 months until they could no longer afford her. Their baby was a newborn when Genevieve started to work there and she took care of the baby many mornings when the mother went to the gym or shops. We have placed her in the meantime and now she is still looking for the above day(s).

References: Yes, two

What the reference said: Genevieve worked for us for 18 months. I can strongly recommend her as a child minder. She looked after our boy from when he was 2 months old, cleaned our house and did the ironing. She was very trustworthy and loving towards our boy. She was always flexible if she needed to come in earlier or stay later. It was a privilege to have her as a part of our family. She had a positive influence on our son's development. She took instructions easily but also made good decisions on her own and I can recommend her to any family with children. Our boy now went to creche and we could no longer afford her.

Genevieve worked for us for 6 months. Our only child was a newborn then. She always watched the baby when I went out in the mornings to do shopping etc.. and was very good with our baby. We were also happy with her cleaning and ironing and had no problems with her whatsoever. I work from home and we could unfortunately no longer afford her, otherwise she would still be working for us.

Our observation: Genevieve says she is passionate about children, she likes cleaning and on weekends she goes to church or to the beach with her husband and child.

They had 3 children and the youngest one stayed with her at home. Patricia’s mother became sick and she went to the Eastern Cape to care for her. The family had to fill her position. Since 2012 a crèche in the Strand calls her to help with the cleaning whenever someone is sick or on leave.  We called both for a testimonial.

What the references said: Patricia was really nice, we never had any problems with her and we were sad that we had to get another lady when her mother became sick for long.

What the reference said: Tina worked for us for about a year whenever I needed her. Also sometimes on Sundays. She cleaned, ironed and played with my children who were 2 and 3 years old. Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 3 years old

Her storyMemory worked for 3 months as a stand in domestic in a family with a 6 months old baby. She cleaned, took care of the laundry and looked after the baby every now and then when the mother went out of the house to do something. We do have a copy of her super nanny certificate.

One Stop Domestic placed Memory in a family with a newborn. Both parents were working from when the baby was 3 months old. But after 8 months the family decided to get another nanny. They say her daughter dearly loved Memory but Memory doesn't have a natural instinct to know when a baby is overstimulated or tired. They advised us to place Memory into a family with older children as they believe she likes kids and is better with children 3 years and older.

We placed her again an now she is looking for the above day(s).

References: Yes, one

What the reference saidMemory worked for us as a stand in domestic for 3 months. She was always punctual and never sick. She irons very well as I am very particular about ironing and when I went to the shops or go out of the house for a while she would take good care of our 6 months old baby unsupervised. We can recommend her to anyone.

Memory was placed into our family by One Stop Domestic when our daughter was a newborn. Memory always tried hard and made an efford and if we wouldn't plan on having a second baby soon we would have kept her as she has a heart for children but not the natural instinct you need to work with babies. I would recommend her to a family with slightly older children who can maybe talk already. Her cleaning and ironing is up to standard so also my recommendation here....

Our observationMemory's children stay in Zimbabwe. She says she likes children a lot and on weekends goes to the park after she has cleaned her own house and done her washing.

First it was a full time position but, because both our children are bigger now and in school, we reduced her work to 2 days/week. She is a fantastic worker. I trust her with my life and my children's lives. When we went away on weekends, she and her husband moved into our house with their children and looked after our children. She has got her own keys to our house. She did evening babysitting for us. Her husband has his own car and fetched her. She is well spoken, intelligent and has a great attitude.
