The ladies below need work certain days only and are not available for full time employment. Most of them are looking at a salary of R200/day including transport. They then get a bread with coffee/tea for breakfast and a sandwich type of lunch from you. You can always make a work offer to a certain lady and see if she accepts it.

What the reference said: Julia worked for me for two years as a domestic.  When our grandchild came to visit from when the child was 3 months old, she looked the whole day after the child and we paid her a little extra.  She turned out to be very good with children.  Julia is a reliable worker who finishes her chores without any supervision.  She is trustworthy and hardworking and I am very sad I moved away and had to let her go.  I believe she will treat her new employer with the same ethics and work standards.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 3 months old

Her story: Masleen is a Christian who worked for a family full time for two years. The family had 3 children aged 10, 4 and 2. Masleen looked after the little one and helped in the house with cleaning and laundry. Then the family no longer needed a full time domestic and now they still call her every now and then to clean their house. She has an Au Pair and CPR course and her two children are both grown up and living in Zimbabwe. She has one grandchild and was the first lady ever to bring a pen and paper to our course to make notes. One Stop Domestic found work for her looking after a 3 months old baby. Unfortunately the family had to move but gave her a very nice reference. Masleen currently works as a nurse but is off every Thursday and looking for Thursday work in the Cape Town area.

References: Yes, two

What the reference saidMasleen has been working for us for two years full time. She helped to look after our smallest one a lot but also played with the other two. She cleaned and took care of our laundry. For the children she prepared basic meals. Her ironing is very good. Then the children grew up and we now only call her to clean our house when we need her which is about once in two weeks. Masleen is always puctual and is a very happy person with a great attitude. She is absolutely honest and her English is fantastic. I can recommend her to anyone.

We got Masleen from One Stop Domestic. She was with us for about 6 months and cleaning our small flat as well as looking after my 3 year old baby boy 3 days/week. We were very fond of her. She was both committed and responsible as well as hard working. We had to move and that's the only reason she no longer works for us. I was often at home when she cared for the little one but at times out of the house as well. She was wonderful with him and followed all my instructions well. I can certainly recommend her for both cleaning and child minding.

My observationMasleen has experience with both children and elderly. Her own children are grown up. On weekends she plays the guitar at her church and describes herself as a friendly person who is passionate about children.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 2 years old

Her story: Patricia is a Christian who worked for 4 years as a char for a family with two children. They were 7 and 2 years old when she started to work for them.  Then they moved to Australia and Patricia doesn’t have a reference from then.  She says if someone teaches her how to cook she is willing to cook for her new family. For the last 3 years she works for the same family every Tuesday but since one day is too little income she is looking for full time work.  That employer gave her a very nice testimonial. In the meantime we placed her during the week and now she is still looking for Saturday work.

References: Yes, two

What the reference said: Patricia has been working for me once a week for 3 years now. She is totally reliable and honest and every time locks up our house properly before she leaves.  She is intelligent, hard working and uses her initiative. Everyone in the family likes her, also our cat.  If she can’t come she let’s me know and always adds that little extra touch to my house.  In the 3 years she has also helped out my friends and neighbors and they were equally happy with her. I can recommend her to anyone.

Patricia was given to us by One Stop Domestic. She was our nanny for our daughter from when she was only 3 months old. She also cleaned the house sometimes and I must say she irons very well. We no longer need Patricia's service and hope One Stop Domestic will be able to find her a cleaning and nanny position soon.

Our observation: Patricia cleans thoroughly and uses her own initiative. Her favorite tasks are ironing and child minding. References: Yes, one

What the reference saidColleen worked for us for 7 years. She helped me with each of my 3 boys from when they were newborns and was alone at home with them from 4 months of age until they went to creche. She also kept the house clean and did the laundry. She is super reliable with a gentle nature. She is not only an effective housekeeper but the best nanny one can ask for. She potty trained all 3 boys and often worked over hours. She worked at a creche for 13 years before coming to us and is so experienced with kids with a wealth of knowledge when it comes to children. She gave our sick children medicine, managed their fevers and often gave me advise as how to handle a sick child. She was almost never sick in the 7 years. We are now living in Sweden and understandably she couldn't join us. My children keep on talking about her and we miss her dearly. I can highly recommend her and the family who will employ her will not regret it.

Our observationColleen's English is very good. She describes herself as being good with children and hard working. On weekends she plays with her grandson and takes him for an outing.

Her storyMemory worked for 3 months as a stand in domestic in a family with a 6 months old baby. She cleaned, took care of the laundry and looked after the baby every now and then when the mother went out of the house to do something. We do have a copy of her super nanny certificate.

One Stop Domestic placed Memory in a family with a newborn. Both parents were working from when the baby was 3 months old. But after 8 months the family decided to get another nanny. They say her daughter dearly loved Memory but Memory doesn't have a natural instinct to know when a baby is overstimulated or tired. They advised us to place Memory into a family with older children as they believe she likes kids and is better with children 3 years and older.

Memory found work again and now she is looking for work on the above day(s).

References: Yes, one

What the reference saidMemory worked for us as a stand in domestic for 3 months. She was always punctual and never sick. She irons very well as I am very particular about ironing and when I went to the shops or go out of the house for a while she would take good care of our 6 months old baby unsupervised. We can recommend her to anyone.

Memory was placed into our family by One Stop Domestic when our daughter was a newborn. Memory always tried hard and made an efford and if we wouldn't plan on having a second baby soon we would have kept her as she has a heart for children but not the natural instinct you need to work with babies. I would recommend her to a family with slightly older children who can maybe talk already. Her cleaning and ironing is up to standard so also my recommendation here....

Our observationMemory's children stay in Zimbabwe. She says on weekends goes to the park after she has cleaned her own house and done her washing.

Her storyMargaret worked for a family for a year until Margaret fell pregnant and they filled her position. With that family there was no child minding involved although she already looked after a 1,5 year old child with another family. She was alone at home with the toddler but since the family moved overseas she doesn't have a reference for that. I called the family in Stellenbosch where she worked for a year for a testimonial. She found work now for 1 day a week and is still looking for the days above.

References: Yes, one

What the reference said: Margaret worked for us for a bit more than a year. She took care of the household and was very reliable and hard working. When she fell pregnant we decided to employ someone else because we couldn't wait for her to come back after 6 months or so. That was the only reason why we let her go, otherwise she would still be working for us. She is very honest and dedicated.

Our observation: Margaret loves children and on the weekends goes to church. She was very thankful and we could see that she is naturally good with children.

Worked with children before, if yes what ages were they? Yes, 2 years

Her story: Hilda is a Christian who worked as a sleep in domestic for a family with 2 children until their oldest child went to crèche full time.  The baby was still very small and with the mother all day.  Hilda would clean, take care of the laundry and be responsible for the 3 year old from 13h. She would also cook family dinner every day following a recipe the employer gave her. She attended a CPR course for children and infants in Cape Town and we have a copy of her certificate.

References: Yes, one

What the reference said:  Hilda has worked for us for about 8 months until we decided our oldest child will go to crèche. She took care of the 3 year old from 13h until bed time. She would give the child food and read stories, play while I took care of our newborn. I made Hilda a daily and weekly list and she got in a good routine of cleaning our big house. With me being at home and the oldest child full time in crèche there was just no sleep in nanny required any more.  I can recommend her to anyone with children as she is naturally good with them.

Our observation: Hilda says she loves children and listening to them. In her free time she sells second hand clothes in her township which she buys at auctions.

Her storyMaggie currently works for two families.  For the one she has been working for 19 years and for the other one for 6 years.  We called both families for a testimonial. There has never been any child minding involved so we would suggest her as a cleaning lady. One Stop Domestic found more days for her and now she is still looking for the day(s) above.

ReferencesYes, two

What the reference saidMaggie is more a friend to me than a maid.  She cleans your house thoroughly and is super reliable. She is punctual and virtually never sick.  She is still “old school” and cleans on her knees and nobody can clean a house like Maggie does. She sees herself what needs to be done next. When we go on holiday we give her the keys of the house and the alarm code to look after the animals, we fully trust her with everything.

Shamiso is very friendly and reliable. Our children are 10 and 12 years old and although she doesn’t have to look after them much they liked to have her around and liked talking to her. We live in Stellenbosch and her husband works for us in the garden.
